I am running into exactly the same problem now on debian squeeze, 64bit.

Well it is the 10th Mersenne prime which makes troubles
and the problem is not related to the build process.
rev 982 built fine on debian lenny,
now running on debian squeeze mersenneIndex 10 takes forever
(mersenneIndex 9 is the last which is ok).
What is going on? A change in gmp?
