You may consider running FriCAS in emacs. There is a fricas-mode for
emacs, you can modify the shell script "efricas",to call a GUI version
of emacs instead of call emacs in terminal.

The Hyperdoc system works fine in OS X, which is GUI based I think.

I'm working in OS X too (snow leopard 10.6.7). I'm not sure about the 
automatic detection of --x-includes and --x-libraries. I always supply it
explicitly:)

What about SBCL? I've compiled FriCAS-1.1.1 on OS X with SBCL 1.0.23,
it works.
