Detailed build instructions:
[1] svn co https://fricas.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/fricas/trunk fricas
-- call the resulting directory "fricas"
[2] copy zips from fricas-1.1.5 to fricas directory
[3] cd fricas
[4] ./configure
[5] gmake -j8
-- gmake takes about 26 minutes
-- gmake -j8 takes about 10 minutes
-- try gmake -j4 on dual core machines
[6] sudo gmake install
Note: my initial build failed, reporting "too many files open" in mid-build.

[2] echo "limit maxfiles 1000000 1000000" > /etc/launchd.conf

That looks like problem with 'gawk'. The message above is a comlaint
about presea script, which is a simple awk script. What do you
get when you try:
gawk --version
I get:

In gawk 4.0 'case' is a keyword. The 'presea' script used
it as variable name, but now it causes syntax error.
I have now changed 'case' to 'use_case' so searches should
work when you build the trunk.
