What kind of error do I have to grep for? And maybe you remember which
of the various lisps ran into problems so that I can install and test at
least these lisps.

Anyway, I have still some questions.
1) Why not also setting LC_CTYPE for the GPHTS?
2) It sounds strange to me that LC_CTYPE would only be necessary for the
creation of the .pht files. Why wouldn't it also be needed to run the
AXIOMsys-HyperDoc connection?
3) And why ISO-8859-1? AFAIU, you have modified FriCAS to use UTF-8 for
all non-ascii.
