The installation instructions say that ecl is roughly 3 times slower. Once upon a time, when I was a fricas contributor, it made quite a difference. But back than, sbcl was a no-go for sage (I forgot why).
I still love fricas' language. I never underrstood why Python succeeded and Aldor didn't, once it became free. But that's live.
