Well, the point is that we have something, namely Expression(Integer)
that does the job of formula manipulation relatively well. It only is
not using expression trees under the hood.

Well, spread the word. FriCAS can do quite a lot, the problem is only
that it has a steep learning curve. In many cases the way one has to
enter expressions to get the desired result is different from what one
is (maybe) used to from other CAS.

In any case, we are here to help with the firt steps. So ask at the
fricas-devel mailing list if you run into trouble.
