a : Integer

To assign value you need to convert type, in this case you can
use 'pretend' ('pretend' should be used sparingly, but this
time it is appropriate):

(2) -> a := elapsedUserTime()$Lisp pretend Integer

   (2)  56
                                                                Type: Integer
