Do you use
pid = Popen(['gnome-terminal', '--title=jfricas', '--'] +
['fricas','-nosman','-eval',prereq,'-eval',start])
now?
Note, we have the terminal where you enter "jupyter notebook" and
another one that is started when you open an .ipynb notebook.
