My plan is to look at this in the next few weeks.  Based on some
preliminary work, it looks solvable, as there are similar constructs in
other places.  I'd rather not be a bottleneck, so if anyone wants to help
with either this or to help make a start on a newer (aldor/spad based)
compiler, it would be welcome.
