Subject: Urgent: Big Oil Kills Wind Energy

Greenpeace
Dear Noah,

Save

Cape Wind We've seen the political influence of big oil before, and even drawn a connection between financial contributions and congressional voting records - before anyone had heard of Jack Abramoff. But this takes the cake.

Oil industry lobbyists negotiated a last-minute backroom deal that could kill Cape Wind - America's first offshore wind farm. Only YOU have the power to stop them.

Even President Bush has admitted that our nation is addicted to oil, and we need alternative energy. But Congress can't seem to get enough of the oil drug, or at least the financial contributions from the oil industry.

Congress comes back to Washington in two weeks, and I hope they'll return to find a mountain of angry emails, faxes and phone messages.

Take Action! Tell Congress not to block the future of wind energy.

This is just the start. We've been working to make Cape Wind a reality for more than two years, and we can't give up now. As soon as Congress comes back, you'll be hearing from us again, and I hope you'll be ready to act quickly.

Sincerely,
Kate

Back in Action Remember us? We're Lonnie and Eric, the two explorers who attempted to cross the Arctic last summer. We faced some of the most intense weather conditions on Earth, and ice floes actually pushed us backwards for many days of our journey. After, 23 grueling days, we had to make one of the toughest calls we've ever made: we were airlifted off the ice.

Well, this summer, we're baaack...Come on, you didn't think we'd given up did you?

In just two weeks, we're starting over. But you can see us live this Thursday night on the TONIGHT SHOW. Tune in at 11:30 (or record us if you need to get up early) to hear our stories from last year's journey and learn more about what we'll be facing in the coming weeks.

A lot has changed over the last year. Global warming has gone mainstream: even the media is acknowledging it's real. And it's not some future event, it's happening now, and faster than scientists had predicted. In fact, we're already seeing some of the devastating impacts.

We're dedicating our expedition this year to saving the polar bear. Polar bears have become a symbol of global warming, and as their habitat literally melts under their feet, polar bears are falling victim to starvation and even drowning. If something isn't done to stop global warming now, we may lose the polar bear forever.

Take Action! Tell the Fish and Wildlife Service to protect polar bears as an endangered species.

So don't forget to tune in this Thursday night - it'd be nice to know we have some friends in the viewing audience. And you'll be hearing from us again soon.

Your friendly neighborhood explorers,
Lonnie DupreEric Larsen

p.s. Just in time for Earth Day, we're launching a new web site to go along with our new expedition. You can follow our journey, read our blogs, and see pictures of what we're trying to save. Stay tuned!
