to Global Exchange Helps Us Address The Link Between Poverty and Peace*

Dear Global Exchange Supporter,

Support GXThis week, Bangladeshi economist Muhammed Yunus accepted the
Nobel Peace prize and made an amazing speech. In it, he called on the
world to look at the connection between peace and poverty, and
acknowledge that poverty is a threat to world peace. He reminded his
audience of the UN's Millennium Development Goal of reducing extreme
poverty by half by 2015, and how the Sept. 11th attacks and the Iraq war
have derailed the world from pursuing this urgent objective. He said,
/"I believe that putting resources into improving the lives of the poor
people is a better strategy than spending it on guns."/

*We couldn’t agree more.*

If you believe that poverty and peace are inextricably linked, then
Global Exchange is your organization, and our members and staff are your
family. From our inception, we’ve understood the need to devote our
energies to both of these issues. That’s why we not only struggle for
economic justice, but we protest against war and strive for peace.

*To give a holiday gift that says you care about both poverty and peace,
please make a donation to Global Exchange today:*

Here are a few of the wonderful programs your holiday donation will
support*:*

*Our Mandate for Peace campaign *was launched after the mid-term
elections, to hold the New Congress accountable to the will of the
voters who say they want a new policy in Iraq that ends the war and
brings the troops home. Imagine what the world might look like if the
billions being spent on the endless war in Iraq were spent instead on
meeting the basic human needs of both Iraqis and Americans.

*Our Conflict Diamonds campaign* was launched to coincide with the
release of the new movie ‘Blood Diamond’. Tragically, more than 3.7
million deaths in places like Sierra Leone, Angola and the Democratic
Republic of Congo have been attributed to diamond-funded conflicts. Our
campaign is educating movie-goers about how diamond profits are
negatively impacting Africans’ human rights and pressuring the World
Diamond Council to ensure that diamonds are conflict-free.

to support these campaigns and others!

Global Exchange is also proud of our efforts to not only protest against
poverty, war and injustice but also promote alternatives that value
human dignity and environmental sustainability over profits. This year
alone, we educated more than 60,000 people about the green economy at
our Washington, DC and San Francisco Green Festivals
<http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=245787075&url_num=8&url=http://www.greenfestivals.com/>.

We also promoted Fair Trade
<http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=245787075&url_num=9&url=http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/fairtrade/>

to tens of thousands of chocolate lovers on Halloween.

As we head into 2007, let’s remember the important things in life – our
love for our fellow human beings and the environment and our desire for
peace and justice. Thanks for *supporting our work
