* GUWAHATI NOVEMBER 22, 2015:FASS HONORED HEMOPROBHA CHUTIA (MORAN)*, the
lady who made history by weaving the entire *GUNOMALA* in her own hand
loom. If Gandhi were alive today, he would have been very happy to see how
the Assamese are keeping the art of weaving alive even in the twenty-first
century in the villages of Assam. When Gandhi visited Assam in 1921 he was
so overwhelmed at the  weaving skills of the Assamese women that he
commented that the Assamese women can create poetry in the hand-loom.
Today, ladies like Hemoprobha Chutiya has proved that Assamese women are
taking the art of  weaving to a greater height..

Hemo probha Chuita is a widow and who had to struggle to raise her three
children. But her love for the art of weaving was so great that she was
determined to weave out the entire* GUNOMALA* in her own hand loom. For
this she had to raise the the Silkworms in her own house from which the
silk threads were made.

Kapil Khaund Memorial Trust organized the event in Vivekanadna Kendra in
Guwahati and honored Hemoprobha Chutiya of Moran with Rs 25,000 and a Xorai
and a Certificate of honor. On behalf of the Trust Dr Mridul Hazarika of GU
presented the award.

On the same event, FASS also honored Hemoprobha Chutia with Rs 10,000 and a
Certificate. On behalf of FASS , Mrs Reena Sharma, a Life Members of FASS
presented the award. Hiren Sarma, a FASS Director was also present and
spoke on the  occasion.  Others present were Binoy Brata Sharma ex CMD of
Oil India. Swapnanil Barua, Hitesh Barua and others were also present. Mrs
Arpana Khaund, President of the trust speaking on the occasion told how the
Trust has been awarding one selected artist every year in memory of her son
who died prematurely and who was an artist.

Presiding the event Dr Mridul Hazarika spoke highly of the Mrs Hemoprobha
Chutia and told how a person with strong determination can overcome any
hurdle and can achieve success. He told that let Hemoprobha Chutiya be a
light of inspiration to many otters.

 Accepting the award Hemoprobha Chitya told that she was overwhelmed with
the honor and that she never dreamt that she will receive such great honor.
She narrated her story how she although being a widow raised her three
children and how her love for the art of weaving led her to complete the
project in spite of various hurdles. She told that her life was like a
going in a boat without  oars. She remarked that man be mortal but art is
immortal. She was so much inpired by the award that .she is now taking up
the project to weave the entire *NAMGHWXA* and even some of the *BORGEETS*
in her hand loom. It may be noted that the Trust also made a film on
Hemoprobha Chutiya.
