These powerful lines, sung by the Assamese singer Bhupen Hazarika in his song
Manuhe Manuhor Babe, reflect the ethos embedded in his music. Bhupen Hazarika,
one of India’s greatest singers, is no more. But his soulful music continues to
inspire humanity like none other.
Recently, he was awarded India's highest honour, the Bharat Ratna,
posthumously. But his family rejected the award saying that Bhupen Hazarika
would be disappointed with the government's 'Citizenship Amendment Bill which
discriminates people on the basis of their religion.
