Pratap Jyoti Handique appointed new VC of Gauhati University Assam Governor and Chancellor of Gauhati University Jagdish Mukhi has appointed Pratap Jyoti Handique as the new vice-chancellor (VC) of the varsity.
Press Trust of India New Delhi August 20, 2019 Assam Governor and Chancellor of Gauhati University Jagdish Mukhi has appointed Pratap Jyoti Handique as the new vice-chancellor of the varsity. Handique shall hold office for a period of five years or till he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier as per provisions under the Gauhati University Act, 1947, a Raj Bhavan release said here on Monday. At present, Handique is a professor in the Department of Bio-technology, Gauhati University, it added. Some of his research papers are as follows: 1. In vitro regeneration of a medicinal plant-Houttuynia cordata Thunb. from nodal explants 2. High multiplication frequency and genetic stability for commercialization of the three varieties of micropropagated tea plants (Camellia spp.) 3. High frequency in vitro shoot multiplication of Plumbago indica, a rare medicinal plant. 4. Rhamnolipid biosurfactant against Fusarium sacchari-the causal organism of pokkah boeng disease of sugarcane 5. Terpenoid compositions and antioxidant activities of two Indian valerian oils from the Khasi Hills of north-east India 6. A brief overview on Andrographis paniculata (Burm. f) Nees., a high valued medicinal plant: Boon over synthetic drugs 7.
