Dear Rajen da and Rachna,Many thanks for organising such an important forum on
Brahmaputra, I thoroughly enjoyed and leant a lot.As rightly discussed by Dr
Phukon, the issue on Brahmaputra is a big as the issue around Indian
bureaucratic red tape and corruption as well. In order to make a real
contribution, we must find a way without direct involvement of the governments.
Among the two clear choices between the Structural Measures and Non-Structural
Measures, we may need to focus more on Non-Structural Measures first so that
we could use public to support the idea and join hands together. Usually
Structural Measures would require Government's support and that also we should
keep pursuing along side the non-structural measures.
My idea is to start a movement in Assam from Sadiya to Dhuburi and mobilise
public from both sides of the river to plant the native trees in multiple rows.
If we make a masterplan and design the plantation properly, it will enhance
natural beauty along the river which will add significant value in the state
tourism as well. We must find a way to support the plantations with supply
chain, execution including the maintenance regime. I have already started some
work along this line through my Smart Villages program and happy to share more
later.
Would you kindly share Dr Phukon's contacts with me please. As a subject matter
expert, I wish to discuss this idea with him as well.Like Dr Phukon, I have
also written to PM and CM suggesting numerous practical and implementable ideas
but usually they donot care!
