Here's the log from a conversation between my Mother and I:

Mom: you know me.. thinking of awesome gifts
Mike: I could use a car
Mike: and a laptop
Mike: not that I need a laptop
Mike: but it would be nice to be able to work outside of my room
Mom: ha you always make me chuckle. how much do laptops cost?
Mike: I could really use a cheapy one
Mom: you DO need one. I agree.
Mom: you pick it out.. you are only 22 once, ya know

I've previously decided that XP will be my last version of Windows I ever use. I just don't get out of it what I can get out of Linux. I do lose things like games and online poker clients, but I'm willing to take the hit. I want a Linux laptop for development. I'd like an emphasis on mobility (wireless, battery life, lite-weight, durability), but the most important aspect is price. Support, included software, and an extended warranty don't really matter as much. Quality A/V hardware would be nice, but I just want something that works under (Fedora) Linux.

Where can I get a NEW (non-negotiable) solid laptop that doesn't require me to pay the Microsoft tax? Dr. Beck, where did you get your laptop?

Thanks,
~Mike
