Right-clicking on the usb device icon [Hard Disk Partition (sda1)] and
choosing Actions -> Change read/write mode worked for me. I had
previously su'ed in a terminal and changed the root password. I don't
think that was necessary but I include it just in case it was.

to use a floppy because most of my files were at least 2MB in size and

Does anybody have some suggestions? This is the first time I used
Knoppix to recover files from a crashed system and I am looking for
some success here.
