So early next semester might be good time for another Linux InstallFest.

Subject: ITS Notice: End of support for Win98/ME
To: undisclosed-recipients

Due to lack of vendor support, network issues and incompatibilities, the University will cease support for Windows 98, Windows 98SE and Windows Me operating systems beginning Jan 1, 2006. Computers running these older operating systems will no longer be allowed to connect to the Truman network through Clean Access, and all hardware and software issues will no longer be handled by the ITS Help Desk and/or support staff.

In 2006, Microsoft will end its own support and stop releasing security patches for the six- and seven-year-old operating systems. McAfee's latest product for Windows 98/98SE/Me (VirusScan 4.5.1 SP1) reached 'end of life' on June 30, 2005. Cisco Clean Access will end support as early as January 2006.

If your computer is still running Windows 98/98SE/Me, we highly recommend upgrading to the more stable and secure Windows XP operating system. For more details, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page at its.truman.edu/documentation/win98.
