I've been reading up on Linus' source code tool, git, in anticipation of using it for a project. For the uninitiated, source code managers allow you to take snapshots of your work, view changes between different versions, merge changes from other contributers, and back out of mistakes gracefully. The most famous SCM is CVS (concurrent version system).
If you think you might be interested it git, I've collected some documentation together. Some of it I wrote myself, and some of it is collected from the git-core documentation. What I wanted was a sort of tutorial of the common situations I expect to encounter, with recipes for handling them. Anyway, if you are interested, you can check it out at: http://limestone.truman.edu/~dbindner/gitnotes/ Needless to say, ice has git installed if you'd like to experiment.
