I don't know why Don gets away without having to say "xhost local:localhost" but on my machine I need to invoke xhost to get X11 in chroot to work. Out of curiosity, does someone have an idea on why that is?

dchroot -d works great. The neat thing about it is that you "chroot" as the same user who issues the chroot command.
