I found my first hardy bug today. Using synergyc to control my hardy desktop from my macbook, the mouse and keyboard input would freeze and stutter every few seconds.
I tracked it down to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synergy/+bug/194029 Which in turn relates to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/188226 Long story short, it appears to be a bug with the interaction of synergy and the scheduler as configured in hardy. Users have been able to recompile the kernel with the CONFIG_FAIR* flags disabled to eliminate the synergy stuttering problem. It also appears from what I can understand that the current hardy kernel scheduler (cfs) setup has broken nice and process priority. If I'm reading the bug correctly, it appears that a niced process from another user will take 50% of the CPU, or a larger slice then needed, and may impact other processes more then intended. Perhaps someone more familiar with CFS could tell us for sure. . . .
