It appears with the kernel upgrade a patch for the cisco vpn client is needed <http://www.blog.arun-prabha.com/2008/05/01/cisco-vpn-installation-issue-with-ubuntu-804-hardy-heron/>before it will compile correctly. Figured I'd pass this along to save others some time and frustration.
