If it doesn't work out, I am sure that a project like this could still happen. It might even mean there is more time to make plans (transportation, storage, etc). I think there are probably plenty of places around that would be happy to donate aging equipment. You might also be able to work something out with the recycling folks over at Baldiwn-Delaney since they have started recycling electronics -- maybe set up a donation center?
