JOB FUNCTION

This position focuses on integrating work flow (both data and
model) of scientific research into a web-based environment, and
enabling on-demand modeling tasks. This is also a scientific
programmer who can transform research prototype software into high
performance production software. For example, this person will
construct a work flow for a radiative transfer model, or a
bio-geochemical model, an ecological niche model, a data mining
algorithm, etc. He/she will turn our modeling program into parallel
computing or cloud-computing (if needed). He/she will work with
other two IT staff and researchers to integrate the work flow,
which is composed of both data stream and models.

* Work with researches and web/database specialists to identify
and standardize middleware requirements for informatics portals
and supporting components.

* Develop interfaces to allow disparate software components to
exchange data in support of data visualization and end-user data
acquisition.

* Develop data assimilation methods, facilitating data acquisition
from disparate sites and field locations.

* Create data flow diagrams and other technical process documentation.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Bachelor's degree in any Science, Technology, Engineering or
Mathematics discipline OR an equivalent combination of education/job
related experience.

* 18 months of experience in web development.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

* Advanced knowledge of programming languages.

DEPARTMENT PREFERENCES

* 36 months' experience in application and workflow integration
and code optimization.

* Experience with data mining applications and implementations.

* Experience with data-driven real-time visualization (maps, etc.)
and its supporting technologies.

* Knowledge of ecology (entomology, current issues, etc.).

* Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new languages and technologies.

* 36 months experience with middleware and component integration
using languages such as Tcl and Perl.

* Knowledge and/or experience in programming languages for the web
