I'm curious to hear opinions on the new Unity desktop. I'm one of those
people who likes to try new interfaces, and I've been using it for a bit now.
Here's my short review:

- I like the idea, but I'd have put the panel on the right, because important
things are more often on the left side of the page, and the panel isn't
important (not as important as the starts of words, for example). I know
that panel is supposed to hide, but when it inevitably loses that ability
after about 15 minutes of use, it would be more handy if it were on the
  right.

- They have some issues with what I would classify as "uniformity." For
example, there's two ways to search for applications. The one on the
panel tells me it's going to search for applications, and has an "All
Applications" setting as default, but it only searches through a limited
subset of applications. Then ALT-F2 brings up an almost identical window
  that searches for all applications.

- I had trouble with the menus in the top bar just not opening reliably and
finally the top bar disappearing altogether. This was after less than an
hour of use. It's a bit hard for me to believe they think it's ready to
  release.

- But I really do like the idea.
