I just read a summary of a new publication about using prizes to encourage innovation, which can be read at http://lists.essential.org/pipermail/random-bits/2008-March/001458.html with links to the full paper.
I don't know whether it's still the case, but the AFFS grants were a bit stumbling in the dark when I was involved and I'm aware that UKFSN no longer funds it. The publication is a survey, so doesn't draw conclusions, but can anyone spot handy tips for free software grant-making success among them? Other questions: - are the AFFS grants still running? - is anyone still paying AFFS? (I've not been asked for money for ages.) - are there other grant programmes there you might go for?
