To the best of my recollection, having been in a similar case many years ago the surviving members can agree to either suspend the rules, or adopt a new set. That does however involve the surviving members being put in touch with each other, and with their being clear as to how and why the situation came about, in the first place and as yet there has been no clear explanation of who it was who decidedto terminate the memberships of those who paid by means other than Direct Debit or Standing Order. And I'm not at all sure that I'd want to hand any assets or monies over to those who see that as a solution to not following the rules. If those who made the decision to terminate the memberships of the majority of the membership had explained why they felt that action needed to be taken at the time, then perhaps they may have carried the membership with them, however it seems that there are a number of former members who feel somewhat aggrieved, and I cannot for one understand why it was done at all, by whom, and what their exact status was when they did it. These questions need to be asked and answered before going any further, as whilst I agree that cock-up, incompetence or lack of time or interest may well have been the prime causes. Does any one want the same thing to happen to any new body, however it may arise, using the current monies and assets of the AFFS, or otherwise. Officers of unincorporated societies have both duties and liabilities, allowing the same level of cock-up, incompetence or lack of time or interest, to prevail twice is to compound a folly and the liability! -- John Seago GNU/Linux Registered User No. #219566 http://counter.li.org/ _______________________________________________ Fsfe-uk mailing list [email protected] http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/fsfe-uk
