I've been wondering so many times about FTP alternatives for faster transfers.
I've seen commercial companies with nice experimental protocols boosting throughput efficiency ( but haven't had the chance to test myselves). http://www.dataexpedition.com/ http://www.filecatalyst.com/ http://www.asperasoft.com/en/technology/fasp_overview_1/fasp_technology_overview_1 http://www.rocketstream.com/home/default.aspx The performance is so promising that I wonder how is possible it's not widely used. My only guess is they are not standards, not OpenSource, and are copyrighted. I wonder how FTP protocol has not been enhanced in such a way in the standard. Do you know of any OpenSource transfer protocol similar to the comercial ones I posted? Shouldn't Apache MINA or FtpServer be the right place for such a development? What do you think on those transfer protocols? Thanks!
