Lucian Beebe(senior product manager at Macromedia) had this to say about Royale during a recent interview;
"When you think about Flash, you're certainly thinking about a client-side development environment, and client-side development mentality. Which is, layout the look and feel of your client, and then wire it up with data on the server. The Royale model is a little different from that. We're thinking about doing the development on the server, and delivering it down to the client. Like JSP or ASP or any of those [scripting languages], it's a very similar model. Except that instead of delivering HTML down to the client, it's actually going to deliver Flash down to the client. You get a much richer, more effective user interface. And it is the development model a lot of people choose." Is Royale designed to create Flash movies, or is it something altogether different? "It is designed to create Flash interfaces." Will it only support Java and JSP? "We're actually not talking about all the details yet. It will appeal to people who are used to JSP-style development, in that they're creating server-side logic to generate a client-side interface, but in terms of specific details." Hope that helps...
