They must have plan to add VOIP on top of
it later on. They can then sell incoming and outgoing call like Skype

I was just pondering as
to how they will serve advertisements, ads on I.M. isn't the done thing and I
can't see it being accepted. Honestly, I think a targetted ad would be pretty
good on I.M., I'm talking about a concert with a friend and *bam* up pops a
link to cheap tickets for that concert. But I can't see them getting away with
that, I suppose it will just be used as a draw to their Gmail service?

I hadn't thought of the Skype connection - but it *does* make sense when you
think about it. Plus, it's another poke in the eye to Microsoft - "hey,
Microsoft! We have just launched our IM service and already have more users
than you! Neener neener!" (or something along those lines).

How could they possibly make a profit off this? I guess it's just an
extension to gMail which they will certainly make a profit with.
Perhaps they're trying to beat skype on the VOIP market?
