I do find that repugnant. The Microsquish tax is on assembled hardware from the vendors (Dell, Gateway, et al) so I assemble my own (as well as for a short list of clients). If a person goes down to the local Costco and buys a Dell they are still paying that M$ tax even if they turn around and install Debian, Suse, Fedora, whatever. So, my advice is to seek out a white-box builder that uses quality parts that are selected to work well together and work well with FOSS.
