Why is Yahoo! Photos closing?
For some time now we've supported two great photo sharing services,
Yahoo! Photos and Flickr. But even good things come to an end, and
we've decided to focus all our efforts on Flickr the award winning
photo sharing site that Time Magazine has even called "completely
addictive."
When is Yahoo! Photos closing?
We will officially close Yahoo! Photos on Thursday, September 20,
2007 at 9 p.m. PDT.
Until then, we will offer you the opportunity to move to another
photo sharing service (Flickr, Kodak Gallery, Shutterfly, Snapfish,
and Photobucket), download your original resolution photos back to
your computer, or buy an archive CD from our featured partner (for
users of the New Yahoo! Photos only). All you need to do is choose
from these options before we close or any photos remaining on Yahoo!
Photos will be deleted and no longer accessible.
Go to http://closing.photos.yahoo.com to make a decision about your
photos before September 20, 2007.
** Note for users of Yahoo! Photos' international versions: Please
stay tuned for information about changes in your countries later this
year. You do not need to take action at this time.
What are my options if I want to keep my photos?
If you want to keep your photos (and we think most of you might),
then you'll need to go to http://closing.photos.yahoo.com to choose
from a few options by September 20, 2007.
1. Move your photos: Select from among the photo sharing services
offered (Flickr, Kodak Gallery, Shutterfly, Snapfish, and
Photobucket) and they will move the photos for you. You'll need to
verify your Yahoo! account information and either create a new
account or login with an existing account at that other service.
Note: You can only move your photos to 1 service!
2. Download: Go to each photo and select "Download" above the photo.
Unfortunately we do not technically support the ability to download
more than one photo at a time, but for many of you it won't take much
time to download your favorites.
3. Buy an archive CD (for users of the New Yahoo! Photos only):
Select the archive CD option, verify your Yahoo! account information,
and begin creating a CD of your photo collection, at the original
uploaded resolution. Our partner Englaze will be offering discounted
pricing of $6.95 for 700Mb of photos.
For those that are interested, it is possible to choose all three of
these options. However, once you've moved to another service you'll
no longer be able to access your Yahoo! Photos account and thus you
will no longer be able to download or buy an archive CD. If you are
interested in choosing all three options, you must download or buy an
archive CD before moving your photos to another service.
