A survey conducted by Australia's Household, Income and Labour Dynamics panel has revealed some surprising data. According to the study, men are generally happier when they marry smart women. In fact, each extra year of education merits an 8% increase in a married man’s happiness. The research, conducted by Shane Worner of the Australian National University and involving 5,000 male subjects, also demonstrated that married men are 135% happier than single men, whereas only 52% of married women are happier than single women. Worner suggested that men might be more content with educated women because they have greater earning power.
So how much would a single man have to earn to be as joyous as his dual-income counterparts? The study indicated that single men would have to earn an extra $119,000 per year, while single women would require $107,000.
