I dunno ... hard drive is an interesting place to install spy vs. spy, but as those of us who have been around the block a few times already know, printers are an even better place to install things to snatch documents as CIA and others have done in the past.
So they have no issues with BIOS chips and motherboards and buying same from "over there?" That's where I'd want to put something untoward so that the OS and all those nifty anti-spy things would never spot them, especially if they were embedded in the north bridge and south bridge controllers, and stored their code from there into the BIOS. But then I've seen interesting devious stuff over the years as I'm sure many of you have. And I remember the old Japanese proverb, now on steroids in China ... "NOBODY see schematic!" :) At 11:26 PM 8/24/07, Paul Ferguson wrote: >-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- >Hash: SHA1 > >John Markoff: > >[snip] > >A Chinese technology company has expressed interest in buying a maker of >computer disk drives in the United States, raising concerns among American >government officials about the risks to national security in transferring >high technology to China. >[snip] > >More: >http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/25/business/worldbusiness/25drive.html > >- - ferg ---------------------------------------------------- Kevin McAleavey, at your service.
