It's actually fairly easy. Of course, pointing out the voltage doesn't tell
the entire story. The current would be practically nothing, but good for a
good jolt to the nervous system. Of course, tossing out the voltage level
alone makes good headlines. Remember years ago when one could buy the little
foil covered books that shocked you when you opened them? Or the trick
lighters? They used to sell these things in comic books.

Personally, based on the story alone, I think charging him with a weapons
violation is getting a bit extreme. Next they'll be charging kids for bringing
power cords to school. "The perpetrator had a power cord that was capable of
delivering a continuous 120VAC shock by simply snipping the cord from a lamp
and pressing the exposed end against the intended victim."

How can something with that kind of battery generate 600 volts?

Teen Arrested For Modifiying Camera Into 'Taser'

CLINTON, Conn. (AP) ― A 14-year-old student at Morgan School in Clinton is
facing a weapons charge, accused of tinkering with a disposable camera to make
it capable of zapping people with an electrical charge.

Police say the camera, modified according to instructions available on the
Internet, had been converted into an improvised electronic demobilizing device
similar to a Taser.

Police say the student never managed to use the device because a teacher
intervened.

School Resource Officer Kyle Strunjo says the makeshift device is potentially
capable of a 600-volt shock.

The 14-year-old student has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon
on school grounds, attempted assault and breach of peace.
