In November last year the US Defence Department banned the use of portable data storage devices. However, Chris Ogle from Whangerei got more than he bargained for when he bought an MP3 player from an Oklahoma thrift shop for $18. When the 29-year-old hooked up the player he discovered a playlist he could never have imagined - 60 files in total, including the names and personal details of American soldiers. Chris Ogle, 29, paid $15 for the player and when he plugged it into his computer he found 60 pages of military data, Television One News said. The files contained the names and personal details of US soldiers, including some who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as information about equipment deployed to bases and a mission briefing. "The more I look at it, the more I see and the less I think I should be [seeing]," Mr Ogle said. Although most of the files are dated 2005, TV One said it rang some of the phone numbers and they were answered by the corresponding personnel. Mr Ogle said the MP3 had never worked as a music player and he would hand it over to the US Defence Department if asked. _______________________________________________ Dataloss Mailing List ([email protected]) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP Desktop 9.6.3 (Build 3017) wj8DBQFJfhxXq1pz9mNUZTMRAto0AKC+XQAtEOLJkFPQN5gy9l4HnD+N/gCeIzMN Ub1N0QsogW7Px/XmQhRivF4= =j1Su -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- "Fergie", a.k.a.
