Actual conversation I had with a local Public Works regarding the "traffic calming" measures on a local street (which admittedly *did* need them). They had built a very small island (maybe 6 foot long and 3 foot wide) in the middle of the street, just big enough for a 'Keep Right' sign. Me: "So the only reason for this 'Keep Right' sign and associated island is so you have to hit the brakes and swerve right to keep from hitting the damn thing" Him: "Yep, pretty much. Once you hit the brakes, its work here is done"
