Again, like others, not excusing it, but I seem to recall that after the onerously long installation procedure for whatever necessary security update to Reader didn't give me the option of NOT downloading and installing AIR alomg with it (Adobe -- you've really got to get your security shit together and foisting unwanted crap-ware on folk along with security updates is NOT part of good security practise, and just because you have 90+% penetration does not excuse it; in fact, it means you have even more need to do it right) I could unistall AIR separately from the Add/Remove Programs control panel (or WTF MS calls it under Vista...). Dunno about other platforms, but it may be that although they don't give you an informed installation option, you can at least uninstall it separately -- kinda like being "un-raped"...
