I concede the point, but will argue that this, too, falls under
"Follow the Money". Which will sell more papers:
DoE computers still running horrible operating system,
rarely-if-ever patched, same old same old
or
Hordes of Foreign CyberWarriors Launch Network Armageddon
(and they have scary nicknames too)
I was also remiss in not pointing out that blaming the teeming hordes
of evil hackers conveniently shifts the focus from their own profound,
systemic, sustained incompetence at all levels. It's much easier to
stand up at a press conference and say:
OHMIGOD!! WE WERE ATTACKED!!! CHARTS! GRAPHS! ZOMG POWERPOINT!
than
We are imbeciles who have not paid attention nor learned
anything during the past many years and that is why we
still allow people in our operation to run Internet Explorer,
with completely predictable results.
