The VARIABLES scope is great for things like:

<cfset dbupdated="Widget was added successfully">

in an act file, and

<cfoutput>#Variables.dbupdated#</cfoutput>

in a dsp_ file that immediately follows that act_ file
within the <CFCASE>.
