Dear UK CFUG Member!

This is to remind you about this Thursday's UK CFUG Meeting.

There will be four ColdFusion sessions covering Fusebox, Security,
Integrating Flash and Shockwave with ColdFusion and IIF and DE functions.
See below for more details.

We will also be running the first of many promotions on Allaire training
courses. For those who come to the meeting and book a course that night you
can get a discount on any Allaire training course run by TECH Connect. See
below for more details.

For those that remember to bring their business cards with them you will
have the opportunity to win some Allaire goodies, including t-shirts,
Allaire Developer Conference 2000 mousepads and posters!!

The meeting is on Thursday 24th August at Cyberia Cafe, London. Doors will
open at 6pm and the meeting will commence at 7pm. For details on address
and directions to the venue see below.

The UK CFUG website (http://www.cfug.co.uk) is back up after the transfer to
our new hosting facility. Please make sure you register for the meeting so
we can fit you all in!

For those coming further afield the IBIS @ Euston (which is only two stops
away from the meeting venue on the Northern Line) has rooms for 69.95 for a
twin room. I spoke to them yesterday and they still had rooms available.
Their number is (020) 7388-7777.

On the agenda will be:

Fusebox - The Basics
====================
Stephen Moretti of the Northern ColdFusion User Group will be giving an
introduction to Fusebox, the structure of Fusebox applications, file naming
conventions, the use of CF_FORMURL2Attributes and the FuseAction variable.
He will also be available to answer any questions you may have about
Fusebox.

Security within ColdFusion
==========================
Jamie Easterman will try and unravel some of the security aspects within
ColdFusion and implications that you should be aware of when hosting a CF
driven website.

Intergrating Flash 4 and Shockwave 7 with ColdFusion
==========================================
Jamie le Notre will be discussing and demonstrating how to best integrate
Flash 4 and Shockwave 7 into your ColdFusion applications, to make them a
purely multimedia experience!! He will show how to use ActionScript
variables to post to ColdFusion and then use ColdFusion to write files that
Flash can pick up. With Shockwave he'll be using GetNetText and GetNetThing
to achieve a very similar result.

Using IIF and DE functions to build better applications
=======================================================
Russ Michaels will be covering usage of IIF and DE functions to create
single dynamic insert/edit data entry forms, general dynamic page/form
element generation and dynamic queries. Through the use of IIF and DE it is
possible to produce far more flexible, readable, editable and dynamic code
in a shorter time, and the many uses for these functions make it a worth
while conversion to this new coding convention.

Allaire Training Promotion
==========================
To begin promotions that we will be running at subsequent UK ColdFusion User
Group meetings TECH Connect will be giving a discount on all their Allaire
training courses to all CFUG members who book that evening. To find more
information on this promotion and subsequent promotions please come along to
the CFUG meeting.

Goodies
=======
Make sure you bring along your business cards as we will be doing a prize
draw for a ton of Allaire goodies. You could win t-shirts, Allaire Developer
Conference 2000 mousepads and posters!

Other UK CFUG News
==================

We are delighted to announce that thanks to the kind banner sponsors on the
site we have been able to move our servers to Telehouse in Docklands. The
main reason for this is the planned launch of our FREE developer hosting
service (more details to come shortly).

We have also spent some time on the site with a complete new look and
functionality. We plan to add to these on an ongoing basis to provide a
complete one stop shop. If you have not re-registered on the site please do
so ASAP!

Due to the demand from the members of the group we are going to be moving to
a monthly based meeting, along with a monthly social outing. More news to
follow on this at the next meeting.

If any one of you would like to help out with the forums, links database or
news on the UK CFUG site we would very much like to hear from you.

Regards

Niklas Richardson
