I don't see how FTP factors in here at all.

FWIW, I've already implemented Doug's suggestion and have set up a dedicated
box for an image server. Works like a champ. Since ours, however, is a
clustered environment, I'm also in the process of constructing a MSCS
cluster version of this same box. It's gonna be real cool. Two nodes, one
running as an image server, the other running as a Front Page server for our
many users who have Front Page webs on our site. The nodes will provide
total failover capability so that if one dies, the other one takes over both
tasks.

For me the bennies are manifold; I get all FP content off of my precious
CF/SQL cluster server, good riddance; and I get all the images off the
CF/SQL cluster server, too!

In all this, however, I've never once had to FTP anything.
