Hi,
Has anyone done any work with using the ideas of the "Personal Software
Process" (PSP, not Paint Shop Pro!) with Cold Fusion? PSP is a structured
method to organise and track your time spent and efficiency and things like
that by keeping data on your code (eg times and number of defects etc )which
can then be used to improve your code next time. It gets quite complicated
and quite convoluted in my opinion in it's latter stages, but I believe it
does have some good ideas, eg if you say to your manager "sure it'll take X
days" they will be more likely to believe and go with your recommendation if
you can say "sure it'll take X days, which I've worked out from this
historical type data"
One of my subjects on it at university was about PSP and I think it could be
useful if adapted to web programming and specifically CF. I was also
thinking of writing an app which could help you track all your data, because
at the moment the most technical the tracking gets is a spreadsheet, which
is a bit cumbersome.
Anyway just wondering if anyone had any thoughts ideas, has anyone already
tried this? Does the rest of the industry already think PSP is a crock like
allot of my class mates after slogging through a semester on it? :)
My reference for PSP is "A Discipline for Software Engineering" by Watts S
Humphrey
Cheers!
Louis
