Actually the .com .org thing is a common misconception
originally this is what they were intended for but that
does not really technically apply anymore since plenty of .coms
own and actively use the .org and .net TLD's
If you want proof, ill dig up links, but you can register anything
and they honestly mean very little, what we need is more descriptive
TLD's....

I'm sorry but 'their' methodology is not theirs at all! That's a basic
development cycle and has been around for as long as their has been
development of any kind.
I remember years ago - when looking for fusebox.org - I stumbled across
fusebox.com. Back then there was nothing on their website, just a few basic
webpages. I know I can't prove this, but back then there was more content
on the fusebox.org website than there was on the fusebox.com site. Basically
what I'm saying is that fusebox.org has been actively in use longer than
fusebox.com.
If they are going to do a "marketing push" then they should make sure they
do it properly! That way there shouldn't be any confusion. As has been
said over and over .com = commercial, .org = non-for-profit - even novice
internet users should be able to make the distinction and their target
market is not novice internet users!
> They also asked if we change the look of our site to theirs.
Cheeky gits!!! Do they want to cause more confusion????
I can't find the email now, but someone mentioned that trademarking fusebox
would upset a lot of electricians. A friend just pointed out that they
probably can't actually trademark "fusebox" as its in the English
dictionary.
I could go on, but I'll just be re-iterating what has already been said.
Like everyone else I think that they don't really have a leg to stand on.
I think the legal notices page is probably a very good idea. However,
before you add it get a solicitor to have a look at it before you post it.
As an aside, I'll bet today fusebox.com has had more hits than ever before.
:o)
Regards
Stephen
