I'm not interested in going whole hog with the 800+ pages of documentation
that make up the OMG UML 1.3 spec. I just want to skim off the best parts
regarding modeling an app before writing the code.

The dangling carrot from the stick is the goal of UML writing the code for
you, so far that you properly model the app. WithClass 2000 can do this
(within reason) with C++, VB, ASP (hah! what an insult!), but not CF
(naturally). However, their product is scriptable to teach it other dev
languages, and I'm thinking Fusebox.

I've got a multi-tiered goal here...

1. Get UML (fUseML, actually) figured enough to do good pre-code app
modeling
2. Write good fusedocs based on the modeling
3. Build an app using this approach
4. If successful in step 3, use the UML/Fuseodc approch as a method for
defining applications, and get somebody else to write the actual code.

Its pretty straightforward, I want to architect the apps more than I want to
actually write the code....
