Hello all,

I'm back from Japan and here are some of my digested thoughts....

-- Big big thank you to Ken (http://www.coldfusionlab.com), Tetsuo (JCFUG),
the fine folks of Sirius, and the dozens of Japanese CFers I had the
pleasure of meeting and talking code with.

-- My first business day there was a 12 plus hour meeting with Fox Japan (as
some of you may know I work for 20th Century Fox) to discuss lessons learned
about entertainment and the internet. Bottom Line: Japan is behind the US on
the net because of many infrastructure and social roadblocks, but that's
changing for the better. In the mean time, Japan (as with Europe) is really
going to town with wireless (internet cell phone).

-- On the second day, I attended a meeting put on by Allaire's Japanese
Partner Sirius. It was principally a Spectra sales presentation, but it drew
450! Everyone was very happy and impressed with the strong interests in
Spectra and also Allaire. Here's a cool picture:
http://spectra.sirius.co.jp/forum/ Thankfully I'm not in the picture.

-- The third day I gave an hour presentation to JCFUG (the after party
lasted many hours, with many great conversations). I was asked to speak on
three topics...

1) The American CF community: They where blown away with how large and
influential our community is, but more importantly that it's "all" done for
FREE. That fact that we help each other out in the name of good code (not
always for the buck) is something that they want very much to take hold in
Japan.

2) FuseBox: My presentation focused mainly on the "why" of Fusebox, and
lightly covered the "how". Well, it's my pleasure to announce that within a
week of my "why" talk, a group of programmers are circulating a Japanese ppt
that explains the "how" in more detail. I working on getting my copy
translated and I'll share it with the group once done. Not sure if there
will be much to share, I'm told the source of inspiration is Jordan Clark's
very fine ppt.

3) FuseDocs: There was great hunger for Hal's FuseDocs and I'm sure it's
already being used by one of the attendees. Hal, the programmers wanted me
to thank you for this one :-)

3a) Our dinner party also revealed a strong interest in FuseUML. UML is used
a great deal by many of the programmers.

There will be many inspiring updates coming from Japan in the next year. As
I learn about them or participate in them, I'll tell the group.

Thanks much for making the CF community what it is.... A great place to be.
