This will also work on a unix box. Edit /opt/coldfusion/registry/cf.registry
and look for the same "key." Even on Solaris, ColdFusion still kind of looks
like a Windows program.

If you are talking about doing it on an NT box....
You could hack the registry...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Allaire/ColdFusion/CurrentVersion/Server/
and change UseAdminPassword from "1" (one) to "0" (zero).
This will disable the password and allow you bypass the login screen. You
can then gain access to the CF Admin page and change the password. This will
only work if you have access to that particular box. We've had to do this
once when a "disgruntled worker" gained access to the CF admin, changed the
password and walked out. let's just say it wasn't a pleasant thing.
