Nathan,
The way I deal with this is that the art director (or whatever you call that
role), when s/he produces the comps and gets agreement on them, produces the
stylesheet(s) for the site. This is given to the prototype folks who do all
the layout and set the various styles to be used. By the time it gets to the
coder, all this is already handled.
What coders get is a "Fusestub" -- the HTML prototype code (including
Javascript and CSS stuff) and the Fusedoc. So, yes, I agree with you--the
coder shouldn't have to worry about this stuff.

fuse and then have a producer/layout person go in
afterwards and apply formatting? OR is it something
else entirely?
It seems to me that the CSS master sheet should be
part of the main spec'ing & design process so that you
could hand a developer a fusedoc and a master style
sheet so that they could apply styles as well as they
coded the fuse. This would prevent the need for a
producer to go in afterwards and pretty up the site.
How do you all deal with this?
