It was always supposed to be an open standard. Allaire wasn't
trying to create the standards so that it could control the
standards (ala Microsoft). They created it because they
didn't find whatever other standards were out there at the
time suitable for the noble purpose of sharing CF data with
other languages.
The comparison with Forums doesn't fit at all. Allaire never
intended to make any money off WDDX. Release 1.0 worked fine
and can take care of itself. It doesn't need to be looked
after.
As for future plans, I'm sure whatever happens the CFWDDX
tag will remain intact.
IMHO, all Macromedia is doing is fixing Allaire's mistake
of giving everyone the impression that WDDX was somehow
Allaire-specific.
