Chris,
There are three (maybe four) possible things you can do when you find
yourself up against the wall:
1. Extend the deadline
2. Drop functionality
3. Reduce the quality
4. Throw more developers at it.
Management isn't usually willing to extend the deadline. Dropping some
functionality, as you did, seems to be the next best thing. Nobody on this
list likes to do a half-assed job. The web developers I've met are pretty
anal about the quality of their code. So reducing quality is out. Depending
on the deadline and complexity of the project, throwing more developers
might work. Management usually isn't wiling to that either. That makes the
project over budget. So dropping functionality is really the only viable
alternative.

Subject: OT: Deadline Developing
As the only Web Developer at my agency, I have all of the say so in what I
do and when. In order to meet the current deadline of having a new *and
improved with fusebox* site available to the public, I have dropped the
admin/content management piece of the site until after the launch. This
seems to be a very productive method for me, having been maintaining the
current site (updates and content) for the past six months anyway. I am
curious to find out how others meet their deadlines when push comes to
shove.
Curiously awaiting,
